TM targets 500,000 SME customers by year-end

KUALA LUMPUR: Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) aims to have about 500,000 small and medium enterprise (SME) customers by year-end, said TM SME executive vice-president Azizi A. Hadi.

The company now has 498,000 customers, of which 80% are SMEs.

TM unveiled yesterday its latest version of UniFi BIZ30 and BIZ50 with higher bandwidth to enable SMEs to maximise the use of online applications and services to improve their productivity.

“SME is important to us as it supports the economic growth in Malaysia, with a total of 20% contribution to TM’s revenue annually. The number is increasing everyday,” said Azizi at the launch of the higher broadband speed and Internet-protocol TV (IPTV) service.

He said the higher-speed broadband connection would enable SMEs to have better experience in doing business activities on the Internet.

TM has also introduced lower call rates and its IPTV service, Hypp TV, as part of the packages.

The call charge is at a flat rate of three sen per minute for all fixed lines nationwide and 12 sen per minute for all mobiles and other fixed lines.

The IPTV service will feature free weather forecast, horoscope, traffic information, Dictionary.com and news headlines.

TM’s UniFi service is available in 94 areas covering more than 1.32 million premises including key economic and industrial zones in the Klang Valley, Cyberjaya, Putrajaya, Kulim Hi-Tech Park and Iskandar Malaysia.

On whether UniFi would be opening offices elsewhere, Azizi said: “The current UniFi deployment is based on supply driven. I think in the future we’re working on our offices nationwide to identify the demand-driven deployment and we’re in the midst of doing the business plan.

“It would be where SME businesses are oriented such as in towns and industrial areas,” he added.

He also said TM would announce its third quarter results on Friday. — Bernama
