500,000 Malaysian SMEs Subscribe To TM's Services
KUCHING, May 14 (Bernama) -- About 500,000 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country have subscribed to the various services offered by Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM), its Executive Vice President, SME, Azizi A Hadi said here today.

He said of this total, some 320,000 have subscribed to TM's broadband and other information communications technology (ICT) related services, reflecting the growing awareness among SMEs on the importance of ICT as a key component in their enterprises.

"The total number of active SMEs doing business in Malaysia is actually about 640,000. So 500,000 represents about 80 per cent of the total number of SMEs in Malaysia," he told a press conference here.

To promote ICT usage among SMEs, TM since last year has been organising the TM SME BizFest, where successful SMEs describe how ICT has helped to grow their businesses.

This year's event, to be officiated by Sarawak Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg and with about 1,500 expected participants, will be at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on June 18.

There is no registration fee. Prospective participants may register online at www.tm.com.my/sme, with the first 100 standing a chance to win an iPad mini.
