SMEs find ways to expand business

JOHOR BARU: Owners of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) had an opportunity to find business solutions at the Telekom Malaysia (TM) SME BizFest 2013 held here recently.

TM SME executive vice-president Azizi A. Hadi said the event, held at the Persada Johor International Convention Centre, was themed Expanding Further.

He said business solutions for management, communications, operations and marketing were showcased at the event.

"It is the second time the event is organised at Persada. The event will also be held at Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre in Selangor on June 11, and Borneo Convention Centre in Sarawak on June 18.

"Until December last year, over 500,000 SME owners had registered for our business solution products. Among the bestsellers were Office In A Box, UniFi Biz, BizApp Store and Marketing Tools," he said.

Azizi said TM also has its account executives and group solution consultants nationwide to cater to customers with special business needs, especially in the technical sectors.

Meanwhile, Johor TM vice-president Mohd Roslan Mohd Rashidi said the state's SME owners made up 11 per cent of the SMEs in the country.

He said the business solutions have helped SMEs to tap into the global market to increase their revenue without having to spend a huge sum of money.

"We believe more can be offered to SMEs in the agricultural and manufacturing sectors," said Roslan.

He said SMEs comprised 32 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP) in the country.

In China and Germany, 60 per cent of their GDP is contributed by SMEs.

At the event, 46 booths were set up at the exhibition.

SME owners also participated in a knowledge-sharing session with industry players.
