Matrade Eyes RM173 Million Sales At CAEXPO 2014
GEORGE TOWN, April 14 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia External Trade Development Corp (Matrade) is eyeing total sales of RM173 million at the 11th China-Asean Expo 2014 (CAEXPO) on Sept 19-22, 2014 in Nanning, China.

Its Director for Business Services & Building Materials Section, Franchise Unit, Ong Yew Chee, said Matrade hoped that the expo would stimulate the economies of both nations despite the slowdown in China, and achieve the bilateral trade target of RM500 billion by 2017.

Last year, Malaysia-China bilateral trade was at about RM203.23 billion.

Ong said China's domestic consumption was strong and this would clearly benefit Malaysian exhibitors.

He said previously, many Malaysian companies, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs), used the CAEXPO as a platform to penetrate the China market.

"For this year's CAEXPO, we hope that the sales of Malaysian products will be able to hit RM173 million, or about 10 per cent better than last year's total sales of RM158.24 million," he told reporters at the CAEXPO promotion roadshow here Monday.

Ong said CAEXPO was highly credited as an important platform to promote the trade, investment and tourism ties between Malaysia and China.

He also hoped that the Malaysian exporters would capitalise on CAEXPO as a strategic platform to tap the huge China market.

"We encourage the participation of large corporations to showcase Malaysia's capability and also the participation of SMEs," he said.

He said Matrade hoped to bring over 100 Malaysian companies to participate in CAEXPO at the Nanning International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Among the products to be promoted are food and beverage, health and wellness, green and technology and lifestyle.

The services include education, franchise and from the government agencies.
